The nation’s largest food drive to combat hunger will be conducted this year on Saturday, May 14, when letter carriers from more than 1,400 branches of the union will collect non-perishable donations from homes as they deliver mail along their postal routes.

The 19h annual NALC National Food Drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers is led in the Milwaukee region by Branch 2. Nationally the weeklong campaign is conducted in more than 10,000 cities and towns in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Nationally the union has 300,000 members.

The Wisconsin Alliance for Retired Americans is a member of We Are Wisconsin which is a network of labor, community and state wide nonprofits, protesting the Governor's budgets and its impact on Wisconsin citizens.

Starting Saturday, June 4th, 4pm., there will be a protest of the Joint Finance Committee approving the Governor's budget with some amendments. We will be doing this by setting up tents by the capital square.

Labor-movement scholar and award-winning author William Powell Jones will talk on “Why We Need Public Employee Unions” at the fourth annual Frank P. Zeidler Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Central Milwaukee Public Library’s Centennial Hall, 814 W. Wisconsin Ave. The program is free and open to the public.

Jones, an associate professor of history at the University of Wisconsin—Madison, specializes in the history of public sector unions, African American history and the history of the civil rights movement.

The Our Lady of Lourdes Social Justice Committee will be showing the film "Dark Side of Chocolate" on Thursday, July 28th at 6:30 pm.

There will be a short discussion to follow. The movie documents child labor violations and trafficking in Africa, and how they are related to the production of chocolate. Please consider purchasing only fair trade chocolate and join us for the OLOL Fair Trade Social Justice Market on November 19th and 20th, too.

Airport security officers will soon vote on union representation. Milwaukee Area Labor Council members will show support for the TSOs and the AFL-CIO affiliate, the American Federation of Government Employees.

Come out to the airport and welcome the TSOs to the AFL-CIO. Labor supporters will meet at the main terminal on the lower level sidewalk near the sheriff's office.
